About Christianity

The central message of the Bible, which is the basis of what it means to be a Christian, can be summed up in just a few simple statements:

1. This is God's world. He made it and he made us. He loves us and wants what's best for us. God has declared his Son Jesus to be the ruler over this world and we know this because Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus has the right to run our lives.

2. But the sad fact is that, at heart, nobody in this world wants to let Jesus run their life. Some people are openly hostile to Jesus, others are passively indifferent to him, others are ignorant of Jesus' claim over them. Refusing to let Jesus rule our lives is what the Bible calls "sin". As a result, God is angry, our relationship with him is broken, and our lives are filled with regrets and disappointments.

3. God calls us to stop sinning, and turn back to him, and submit to Jesus as our rightful ruler.

4. If a person does stop rebelling and turns to Jesus and submits to him as Ruler, he or she is treated as if he had never sinned. His past is put behind him. He is forgiven because of the death of Jesus on his behalf. He has peace with God.

5. When we do that, we are given power to change. God sends his Holy Spirit into our lives to help us live his way as a new person. God promises to be with us and do us good through the struggles of life. And we have hope for the future beyond the grave: eternal life.

Want to know more? At Bobbin Head Anglican Church we offer a fantastic course in which you can discover what Christianity is all about. The course is called Christianity Explored. New courses start regularly.

What is Christianity Explored?
Christianity Explored is a 7 week course, the primary aim of which is to present the basics of the Christian faith.  The course was written by Rico Tice, an Anglican minister who works at All Souls Church in central London.

Who is Christianity Explored for?
It is particularly suited to people who know little or nothing about Christianity and who want to take steps towards finding out more. Or you may be someone who rejected following Jesus a long time ago, but you feel that you should revisit that decision as an adult. The course explains both the privileges and responsibilities of being a Christian, and contains all the information one would need to know in order to make the decision to follow Jesus. Given that such a decision is life-changing, the course gives ample opportunity for people to “count the cost” before coming to the point of taking that step. The course is also for people who are already Christian believers. It provides a wonderful opportunity to brush up on the basics of the good news about Jesus, and to confirm what it means to be Jesus’ follower in the 21st Century.

What is the format of Christianity Explored?
The course is hosted by Rev. Steve Calder (minister of BHAC). There is an informative and easy-to-watch video which is presented by the course’s author, Rico Tice, and there are plenty of opportunities to discuss issues. You can ask any question you want. You don’t need to know anything about the Bible, and you won’t be asked to read aloud, pray, sing or sit an exam.
